This is an n8n community node that integrates the Linkup API into your n8n workflows. Linkup is a web search engine designed specifically for AI applications, providing reliable and factual grounding data for LLMs.

- The key is transmitted using Bearer token authentication
- Never share your API key or commit it to version control
- Minimum n8n version: 1.60.0 or later

- Use fast for simple, focused queries when latency matters
- Use standard for most everyday queries
- Reserve deep searches for complex questions requiring comprehensive analysis
- Sourced Answer: Best for getting quick, factual answers with citations
- Search Results: Best for gathering multiple sources for further processing
- Structured: Best when you need data in a specific format for downstream integrations
- Use Search when you need a synchronous answer in seconds (one node, one response).
- Use Research for in-depth investigations where it’s acceptable to wait minutes for a more thorough result. Research returns a task you poll asynchronously.

Installation

Community nodes are installed from npm. The package name is: n8n-nodes-linkup-so
Operations
This node provides four main resources for interacting with the Linkup API:
Search
Perform web searches and retrieve context for AI grounding. The search operation returns relevant web content that can be used to ground your AI responses with factual information.
Configuration Options:
– Fast: Sub-second search optimized for simple, focused queries (beta)
– Standard: Fast search for straightforward queries
– Deep: Comprehensive search for complex queries requiring detailed analysis
– Sourced Answer: Returns a concise answer with source citations
– Search Results: Returns a list of relevant documents
– Structured: Returns data according to a custom JSON schema you define
Optional Filters:
Fetch
Fetch and convert any webpage to markdown format. This operation retrieves webpage content and converts it to clean, structured markdown.

Research
Run an asynchronous, deep research task. Unlike Search, the Research API kicks off a long-running job that performs comprehensive web research and is retrieved separately once it completes. Three operations are exposed so you (or an AI agent) can manage the task lifecycle:
#### Start
Kicks off a new research task. Returns a task id and an initial status (pending).
Configuration Options:
– Sourced Answer: Returns a concise answer with source citations
– Structured: Returns data according to a custom JSON schema you define
– Answer: Direct answer for simple questions
– Auto: Agent auto-classifies per request
– Investigate: Investigative mode for deeper analysis
– Research: Full research mode for comprehensive results
– S: Fastest, least thorough
– M: Balanced speed and depth
– L: Default depth, thorough
– XL: Most thorough, highest latency
Optional Filters:
#### Get
Retrieves a research task by its id. Use this to poll until status is completed (or failed) and read the final output.
Configuration Options:
#### Get Many
Lists research tasks for your organization, with pagination and sorting.
Configuration Options:
> Polling pattern. Because Research is asynchronous, the typical workflow is Start → Wait → Get → IF status == completed. Loop the Wait/Get until the task completes, then continue with the output. AI agents can do the same by calling the Get tool again later instead of blocking.
Task
Create and manage asynchronous batch tasks via the unified /v1/tasks endpoint. A task wraps any of the three operation types (search, fetch, research) in an async job that you can poll for results. This is useful when you want to fire-and-forget, or when working with long-running operations.
#### Create
Creates an asynchronous task. You select the task type (search, fetch, or research) and configure the same parameters as the corresponding resource. Returns a task id and initial status (pending).

Retrieves a task by its id. Use this to poll until status is completed (or failed) and read the final output.

Credentials
This node uses API key authentication to connect to the Linkup API.
Getting Your API Key
1. Create a free account at https://app.linkup.so
2. Navigate to your account settings or API section
3. Generate or copy your API key
4. In n8n, create a new Linkup API credential
5. Paste your API key into the credential field
Note: When you test your credentials in n8n, the node verifies your API key by checking your account balance. This validation does not consume any credits.

1. Use Search to find relevant URLs
2. Use Fetch to retrieve full content from those URLs
3. Use Research for deep, multi-source investigations on a topic
4. Use Task to run any of the above asynchronously and poll for results
5. Process the markdown / structured content with other n8n nodes
